The Priesthood Strengthens and Blesses Families
Many years ago two babies were born. A little girl and a little boy. Twins. They were born a too early and were little. The doctors realized that the little boy was having trouble breathing. His lungs weren’t quite developed and weren’t working like they should. They did everything they could to help this little boy. Finally they told the baby’s family that they weren’t sure he would live - and if he did he would be blind, deaf, and probably would never walk or talk. The family was so sad to hear this. But the little boys’ Grandpa felt he should give this baby a Priesthood blessing.
The Priesthood is the power to act in God’s name.
The Priesthood is the authority given to worthy male members of the Church when they reach the age of 12, beginning with the Aaronic Priesthood and later the Melchizedek Priesthood. Although the Priesthood Authority is given to the men in our church, the BLESSINGS of the priesthood are available to the entire family.
Our families can be blessed and strengthened by the priesthood.
When this sick little boy’s grandpa put his hands on the baby’s head, he felt in his heart to tell this little boy that he would be okay.
He felt the spirit and in the blessing said that this little boy would not be blind or deaf and would one day walk, talk and be strong and healthy. He also would someday be a missionary, a husband, and a dad.
I am grateful that this grandpa was worthy to use the priesthood authority that he was given when he was younger. I am grateful that he felt he should give that little boy a blessing. That sick little baby grew up to walk, and talk, see and hear. He is strong and healthy and he became a missionary and a husband and a dad. He is MY dad.
I am thankful for the Priesthood. I can’t wait until November when I will turn 12 years old and receive the Aaronic Priesthood. I hope I will always live righteously and be worthy to use the Priesthood to bless and strengthen my family.
