Primary Talk - Showing Respect with Church Clothes

Each Sunday morning, when I wake up,  my mom makes me take a shower, brush my teeth, and asks me to get dressed in my church clothes.

Sometimes, I try to wear my shirt untucked -
but she always tells me to “tuck it in and get a belt”.

Sometimes I try to forget my tie -
but she always makes me feel bad by telling me she
“wishes I would wear it.”

Sometimes, I even try to wear my football socks -
And sometimes I get away with it.
But when we are sitting in sacrament meeting,
she usually sees them and gives me a sad look
and I feel bad that I disappointed her.

Now that I am getting older, I am starting to understand why my mom makes me wear a tie, tuck in my shirt and wear my church socks.
It is to show respect to my Heavenly Father and His house.

Wearing my church clothes also helps me act a certain way.

At school I wear shorts and T shirts
so I can play basketball and run around with my friends.

On Saturdays I wear my football uniform and cleats
so I can run in wet grass and tackle people to the ground.
I know I will get dirty.

I can’t imagine playing basketball, running around with my friends or tackling someone in my church clothes.
My church clothes help me to be reverent and respectful.

There is a primary song that says:
The chapel doors seem to say to me, - “Sh, be still.”
For this is a reverent place to be, - “Sh, be still.”
We gather here on the Sabbath day to learn of Jesus, to sing and pray.
So when we come through the chapel doors, - “Sh, be still.”

Our church and especially the chapel is a sacred place.

It offends Heavenly Father when we come to church not dressed in our church clothes and not being reverent.
We are Heavenly Father’s children and we need to look and act the part.

I hope that each Sunday we will come to church in our best clothes, be reverent, and listen to our teachers, so we can show respect to our Heavenly Father & Jesus.
I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
